Open Letter From Illinois Business And Civic Leaders

Dear Members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation,

As business and civic leaders in Illinois, we are writing to urge you to co-sponsor the DREAM, the RAC or both immediately. And if you have, we thank you.

In less than five months, DACA will end and some 800,000 DACA recipients will lose their work permits – unless Congress passes a legislative solution to DACA. Illinois is home to over 42,000 DACA recipients, and losing them as consumers and workforce members will cost our state $2.3 billion in the next decade.

DACA recipients came out of the shadows in good faith, submitting to rigorous background checks and demonstrating their commitment to bettering our country’s future by earning college degrees, working hard in a variety of industries, and investing in our economy by purchasing homes and cars.

In less than five months, DACA will end and 800,000 DACA recipients will lose their work permits unless Congress passes a legislative solution. Your leadership is needed now more than ever, and we are ready to work with you. We ask that you co-sponsor the DREAM, RAC, or both in order to keep 800,000 DACA recipients working, paying taxes, growing our economy and creating more jobs for all of us.

Sincerely,
